Weeks 3 and 4

The past 2 weeks weren't a whole lot different than week 2. I think I'm starting to lose my motivation....until I see pictures of what I would like to see myself look like. Then I'm good for another hour or so and then back to "forgetting" what my goal is. I keep telling myself that this is a long term commitment that is going to be hard! The pounds and inches aren't going to just 'melt' off. It's going to take a lot of hard work.

I need some success stories from any of you who would be willing to share. I think it'd help quite a bit. I can read tons of them online or in magazines, but who knows if they're really true? Could you also send some helpful tips my way? Things that have either helped you or things to stay away from? I don't have it in the funds to go to the gym or get a personal trainer or anything like that, so I'm doing the best I can at home.

Week 3: I lost 1 lb.
Week 4: I lost another 1 lb.

Total weight lost for month 1: 2 lbs.

This is fine, but 4 weeks have gone by and I've already failed my goal of 5-7 for the month. I guess if I consistantly lose a pound a week, then I'll at least be happy with that. Something is better than nothing, right? Two more weeks until I'm done with my Slim in 6 program. After that I've decided to train for a 5k. My good friend Jen gave me a "5k for dummies" guide that will take 6 weeks to accomplish. THANKS JEN!!

Here's to week 5!

Carrie, Tara and I did the South Beach Diet for about five or six months (part of it was during the holidays so I'm not sure I would count those months) :). We loved it, the first two weeks of the program were the hardest, after that we really started to enjoy the meals that we could eat. I think that Tara lost a total of 20 lbs and I lost about 30 or so. We both lost most of the weight in the initial two months, after that was when the holiday season started. We at least maintained our weight through the holidays. Oh, and we didn't really follow the diet completely on the weekends, we would go out to dinner or ice cream with the kids. I think that if we did it with exercise we could have lost even more weight. Anyways, that is our story I hope that it gives you a little bit of motivation. Keep up the hard work you can do it! You guys look great!

Hi Carrie -
The weight loss you have experienced thus far is great! In my book any movement toward your goal is a good thing, but I can also COMPLETELY relate to wanting to see quicker results. I don't know if this will help you at all, but here is a link to an online bmi/calorie deficit calculator. I found that it was the most accurate one out there on the internet. I was able to check it's accuracy by getting my body fat tested at the gym - and it was identical to the calculation. http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-burned
Also, after plateuing for over a month and a half, I changed up my workout routine to include jogging. In addition, I log everything I eat in an excel spreadsheet that I created. I eat every 2-3 hours. That way I make sure that i am not munching on Leo's goldfish, which adds carbs and calories that I normally wouldn't attribute to affecting my total daily calories, because "it's just a few, right?" Wrong. It does affect it. We are better off choosing one meal a week that we cheat, than having a handful of our kid's cereal daily -because of the way our body reads what we are trying to accomplish by what we put in to it. With the cardio and logging food change, I lost another 4 pounds...and 3% body fat...finally putting me in the doctor's "healthy" range. If you have trouble eating 6 x a day, I suggest you use Spirutein for your "snacks". You can get at a health food store. It is all natural and will keep your metabolism moving between meals.
I don't know if you are still breastfeeding or not, but I experienced that affected me not losing weight even with concerted effort. Everyone is different.
I like bodybuilding.com for inspiration, or I would be willing to privately send you some progress photos of myself, but I'm not ready to post them yet. ;) Lastly, Sam has been a huge support for me; as I know that David is for you. Sam and I pray about it together when it becomes overwhelming/frustrating/discouraging to me. That prayer always seems to help me focus on the goal. I will be praying for you during this life change too.
Much love,
Jenna
