HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

There are many reasons one might scream on Halloween. Ghosts, ghost stories, black cats (if you're superstitious), scary masks, pranks, and the list goes on. Today, I'm screaming for a whole other reason. MY KID! On a normal day, ok almost every day, I put him down for his nap about 1 o'clock and to bed, about 8 o'clock. I had to run something out to David's work on short notice, so by the time we got back and ready to go down, it was about 1:20. No big deal. I change his diaper, I get his teddy, his blankie, and sing to him. I lay him down...he gets up. Climbs out of his crib, opens the door to his room and just stands their waiting for me. I put him back down. This process is repeated...oh, about 20 more times. The first dozen times, I'm silent. I don't say anything, I don't sing to him anymore, just lay him down and close the door. After the 12th time or so, I start to get irritated. I tell him YOU NEED TO GO NUH NIGHT! THIS IS NOT A GAME! He still gets up. And the funny thing is, he doesn't try to run away. He'll stand there while I pick up everything he's thrown out of his crib with his arms half way up as if to say, 'whenever you're ready, pick me up and put me back in'. He'll lay there until I turn my back and close the door to roll over and climb out. And all the while he's got this smile on his face. (which is why I tell him that it's not a game) I lose count every time. This happens at bed time, too. And you would think he's so tired because he's now starting to wake up and climb in bed with us about 6:30am. (that's early for us) The last time I checked on him, it was 2:15. He is finally asleep. I can stop screaming (inside my head) for now...until bedtime tonight. Let's just hope walking door to door tonight wears him OUT!

I know how it is.
The trick that works for me is when I really need to also take a nap. I have all the kids sleep with me in my bed. When they fall asleep they will sleep longer when they are sleeping with me. But if they give me a hard time, I will put them in their own beds. They all love to take naps with mommy. So they are most of the time really good about going to sleep because they don't want to take a nap in their own beds.

Carrie, I don't have little ones yet. So I wouldn't know where to start on giving advise... The only thing I kept thing was Gabriel should be picking up the mess he made not you. About him climbing out of his crib... good luck with that. You can give me your advise once you figure that one out ;) love ya

They make Tents for tover the crib. THEY WORK!!!!!! My sister had to use it with all her kids. It zips them in. Try it if you are super frustrated and you want him to soothe himself and settle down to the sleep. Working with children for sooooo many years I understand them. Getting themselves to sleep is a skill kids his age NEED to master. Love ya and let me know how everything works out.

We've done the "tent" with a blanket before the little guy knew what was what. This was more so it would blockout distractions.

I know I'm a few years behind the kid power curve but I agree with P&P. As long as everything else is taken care of, let him cry himself to sleep if need be.

G-man is at the age where he understands very well cause and effect. Take yourself out of the equation and he'll be so bored out of his mind that he'll eventually wind down and fall asleep.

Mommy needs her sleep, her sanity, and, time with her sexy Brazilian husband. ;)
