Love Thy Brother

I just had to write a little something about the best younger brother anyone could ever have. My poor brother gets asked to do EVERYTHING from everyone in my family. Moving? Call David for help. Need a baby sitter? Call David. Run out of gas or get locked out of your house? David to the rescue! Run out of ideas for dinner and need a cheap pizza? Call David. So who did I call to help move a piano today? David!

We have had a piano in a garage at our old apartments for the past 2 1/2 years that we kept there for who knows what reason. Why it didn't get moved when we moved into our house, I have no idea. Or at least, I forgot the reason. It was my late grandmas piano brought to Oregon from Colorado years back that David had insisted on keeping in the family. (no one, at the time, was very interested in keeping it.) After seeing the piano, he thought it was ugly and had changed his mind. He didn't want it any more. So it just sat in our garage. Well, we haven't lived there for a few months now and really needed to get it out of that garage. His boss had given him 2 weeks to figure out what he was going to do with it. A month and a half later, it's still there. At this time I had changed my mind too. Now I do want it. Sure it's not gorgeous but it would be fun to have. I could take up piano again. No, he doesn't want it. That's fine. I don't care. Now it's crunch time. If it's not out of the garage today, it's getting tossed in the garbage tomorrow. Crap! My mom said not to toss it, that she was wanting it if nothing else. My sister wants it but doesn't have room for it until she gets a house. So I decide to just do it myself. I get the U-HAUL and make sure it's taken to my moms. But who was really the star of the show? DAVID! I called him and asked if he'd be willing to help and he said, sure, no big deal. So I pick him up and we get the truck and head back to the apartment garage where he, husband David and a couple of other guys helped load it into the truck. We didn't have any ties to tie it down, so it was laid on its back. All of those other guys went back to work and it was just Brother Dave and me to haul it away. When we got to my moms, she was there and had made room for it in her garage. Now, the fun part. To get it out of the truck. Just David, me, and my mom. I'm 9 months pregnant and can't lift anything. My mom is pretty tough, but still, can't lift a piano. David would have to do it all. He tried to call my older brother to see if he would be able to help, but he was at work, I'm sure, and wasn't able to get a hold of. Sure enough, David T.A.C.K.L.E.D that piano. I couldn't believe it.  Brother Dave, you are a ROCK STAR and I am so grateful to have you for my brother. A brother so willing to take time out of his day, last minute!, to help me out. And you didn't complain about it once. I love you so much. Thanks for coming to my rescue every time I've needed you to.

I remember that old piano. I am surprised that nobody wanted it. Maybe my memories are such that I remember it was nicer than it really was.

I had the job of once moving a piano for my mother. She was able to get a piano from Sister Brothers in LaJara. I loaded the piano by myself into the pickup and I unloaded it. This was an upright piano. It was not one of those spinet jobs, but the full 6 footer. It was heavy.

Yes someone does want it and that someone is me, but we are in the process of getting ready to move and don't have the space until we do move. And yes our brother is a ROCK STAR! I LOVE him!

I would like to see this Piano. Post a picture!
It is wonderful to have a brother at is always willing to help. My little brother Chauncey is also like that. I am glad that he was able to move the piano without getting hurt.

I loved your Grandma's old piano. I remember that she had it remodeled. It was an upright grand, the old style of piano, and it was a dark wood color. She had the mirror added to the top, and the upper cabined was modified to make it look more modern. I loved to listed to Jane, Pat, and Nancy practice on that piano. Does it still look the same today?

Thank goodness for Dave...sounds like the piano looked better before Grandma had it antiqued...oh well, Linds will take it soon!

Are you talking about Elma's old Piano? There are some things that bring memories back. Carrie, I know that you don't know me, but I remember you. I lived across the street from Elma and we were very close friends. She is my aunt.
